Eaglet News Welcome back from Christmas! I hope everyone has had a wonderful, restful, and enjoyable holiday! As the Eaglets embark upon the second half of the school year there are a couple of important things you should be aware of. First of all, coming up soon is Catholic Schools Week. This is a fun-filled week of celebrating our faith and Catholic Identity. Each day there is a theme, such as celebrating students, teachers, and pastors as well as community service oriented events. Bishop Matano will be visiting our school to host mass that week as well as many other events. More information will be sent home via the main schools weekly newsletter, so please be looking for it!
Also, in the upcoming weeks I am going to start transitioning the preschoolers away from our traditional "nap" time and moving them towards more of what they will be experiencing when they are in kindergarten, which is a true "rest" time. I will gradually ease back on how long the children give their bodies to fall asleep without a teacher rubbing their backs to see if their bodies need to sleep. The lights will stay off, soft music will be playing and the Eaglets will have the option to move about the room and choose from one of a few quiet activities once the allotted time to fall asleep is up. The activities will include reading, coloring, completing puzzles and other independent, quiet choices. Currently the Eaglets are required to lay quietly for 30 minutes, from 1:00-1:30, with my support before being allowed to read. My goal is that by the end of the year the Eaglets are able to self-regulate their rest time, sleep if they need to, and for them to be prepared for kindergarten!
Parents as Teachers / Home Connections Ideas The Home Connections bags have seemed to be successful so far! The bags will start going home on Thursday's, instead of Tuesday's. Families can hold onto the bags for one week, returning the bag again the following THURSDAY; with families adding days for the second half of the school year and rearranging their child's schedule Thursday is the day when I have all of the children at school. Please try to return the bag on time so that the next family can receive the bag on time as well!
